FTLX1472M3BCL multi-rate 10g sfp+ product specifications ? finisar corporation - february 2012 rev. b page 6 viii. digital diagnostic functions finisar FTLX1472M3BCL sfp+ transceivers support the 2-wire se rial communication protocol as defined in th e sfp msa [1]. it is very closely related to the e 2 prom defined in the gbic standard, with the same electrical specifications. the standard sfp serial id provides access to identification information that describes the transceiver?s capabilities, standard in terfaces, manufacturer, and other information. additionally, finisar sfp+ tran sceivers provide a enhanced digital diagnostic monitoring interface, which allows real-time access to device operating parameters such as transceiver temperature, laser bias current, transmitted optical power, received optical power and transceiver supply voltage. it also defines a sophisticated system of alarm and warning flags, which alerts end-users when pa rticular operating parameters are outside of a factory set normal range. the sfp msa defines a 256-byte memory map in e 2 prom that is accessible over a 2-wire serial interface at the 8 bit a ddress 1010000x (a0h). the digital diagnostic monitoring interface makes use of the 8 bit address 1010001x (a2h), so the originally defined serial id memory map remains uncha nged. the interface is identical to, and is thus fully backward compatible with bot h the gbic specification and the sfp multi source agreement. the complete interface is described in finisar application note an- 2030: ?digital diagnostics monitoring inte rface for sfp optical transceivers?. the operating and diagnostics information is monitored and reported by a digital diagnostics transceiver controller (ddtc) inside the transceiver, which is accessed through a 2-wire serial interface. when the seri al protocol is activat ed, the serial clock signal (scl, mod def 1) is generated by the host. the positive edge clocks data into the sfp transceiver into those segments of the e 2 prom that are not wr ite-protected. the negative edge clocks data from the sfp trans ceiver. the serial data signal (sda, mod def 2) is bi-directional for se rial data transfer. the host uses sda in conjunction with scl to mark the start and end of serial pr otocol activation. the me mories are organized as a series of 8-bit data words that can be addressed individually or sequentially. for more information, please see the sfp msa documentation [1], [6] and finisar application note an-2030. please note that ev aluation board fdb-1027 is available with finisar moddemo software that allows si mple to use communication over the 2-wire serial interface.
FTLX1472M3BCL multi-rate 10g sfp+ product specifications ? finisar corporation - february 2012 rev. b page 7 ix. digital diagnostic specifications FTLX1472M3BCL transceivers can be used in hos t systems that require either internally or externally calibrate d digital diagnostics. parameter symbol units min max accuracy ref. accuracy transceiver temperature transmitter bias current x. internal cdr?s locking modes the FTLX1472M3BCL is equipped with internal clock and data recovery (cdr) units on both the receiver and the transmitter sides. the host can set the cdr?s to lock at 8.5gb/s, between 9.95 and 11.3 gb/s, or in by-pass mode, by setting the rate select pins or the soft bits (logic or). the different locking mode s are shown in the following logic table: pin 7 rs0 pin 9 rs1 bit 110.3 soft rs0 bit 118.3 soft rs1 cdr locking mode low low 0 0 locking at 8.5g (default) low high 0 1 both cdr?s in bypass mode high low 1 0 high high 1 1 locking between 9.95 and 11.3gb/s the rs0 and rs1 pins are intern ally pulled-down to ground as per [1]. the soft bits are both set to zero at the transceiver power-up. th erefore, the default configuration sets both cdr?s to lock at 8.5gb/s, unless the rs0/1 soft bits or the hardware pins are set as shown in the logic table above. alternativ e configurations can be factory set upon request. finally, both cdr?s are disabled when the transceiver is set into power level mode i. please, contact finisar for additional information. xi. sff-8431 power-up sequence the typical power consumption of the f tlx1472m3bcl will not exceed the limit of 1.5w specified in [1] for the power level ii device. moreover, the FTLX1472M3BCL is factory set to power-up direc tly to its operating conditions in power level mode ii, but upon request, it can be factor y set to follow the power-up sequence specif ied in the sff- 8431 for transceivers exceeding 1w. for additional details please, refer to [1] and finisar?s application note an-2076.
